I think Japanese traditional instruments can survive only as a culture.
It can't be "music".
Japanese traditional instruments player often play with
western instruments,
but almost always Japanese traditional instruments
are inferior to western insrtuments in terms of expressive power and volume.
It's natural because they play western music,
Japanese traditional instruments was not made for
playing western music.
Remodeling instruments for playing western music,
it loses the identity of Japanese traditional instruments.
Taking shamisen as an example,
some player say they want to remodel to increase the number of strings.
But if you remodel the instruments
to increase the capability as a "musical" instruments,
it's easier to make guitar playing with bachi(plectrum).
In addition to that, western music composer often compose music for Japanese traditional instruments.
They don't play Japanese traditional instruments,
so alomost always the music does not utilize the charasteristics of the instrumens.
As it were, the music composed by western music composer can be played with western instrumens.
It's no need to play with Japanese traditional instruments.
The same can be said for aikido.
In aikido community, I sometimes find discussions of effectiveness of aikido as a martial arts.
If someone want to be strong when he or she fights,
I recommend "Ju-jutu".
"Do" in the word of "Aikido" means the "way".
As can be seen the example of this,
the goal of aikido is the mental traning.
Surviving as a culture means the instruments or budo as resourses of tourism.
So I want to start my company of Japanese traditional culture experience.
